The High Court has upheld a decision of the NMC’s fitness to practise panel to erase a nurse for dishonesty.
In the case of Adebayo v Nursing and Midwifery Council [2025] EWHC 315 (Admin), the High Court dismissed the appeal by Oladotun Adebayo against the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s decision. The nurse had been dishonest about his employment history and failed to disclose a criminal charge related to dishonestly retaining wrongful credits totalling £9,732.33.
The Panel had found that the nurse had dishonestly retained wrongful credits and failed to disclose his dismissal and criminal charges when applying for a job. Despite his remorse and repayment of the money, the Panel concluded that his actions were serious and undermined public confidence in the nursing profession.
The court agreed with the panel’s decision, stating that Adebayo’s actions fell seriously short of the standards expected of a nurse and that a striking-off order was appropriate and proportionate in the circumstances.
