The NMC has appointed Professor Donna O’Boyle to support the improvement of its fitness to practise (FtP) processes.

From 1 January 2025, the NMC will continue to automatically recognise most Swiss qualifications under a new mutual recognition agreement.

The NMC is ‘accused of covering up secret reports’ and ‘refusing to publish the internal review highlighting new failures to protect the public.’

The public are more likely to raise concerns about nursing and midwifery professionals’ communication and manner, while employers tend to focus on performance-related issues and competence.

A review of practice learning requirements for nursing and midwifery students has highlighted diverse experiences and supervision levels, prompting calls for action to address these inconsistencies.

The register of all nursing and midwifery professionals who can practise in the UK has reached a record 841,367.

Anthony Omo, seconded from the GMC said the scale and breadth of change needed at the NMC around FtP would “inevitably take time”.

A NMC study shows that advanced nursing and midwifery talent is being lost within the health and social care system.

“Hundreds of nurses” feel let down after being told by the NMC that they had not completed the 2,300 placement hours required.
