The General Dental Council (GDC) has announced that MyGDC, its new online registration service, will go live on 25 March 2026.

MyGDC will replace eGDC and represents a major step in the regulator’s programme to modernise its services and improve the experience of the thousands of dental professionals who join or manage their registration each year. In 2024, the GDC received approximately 13,000 new applications to join the Register.

The new platform enables applicants to complete the entire registration process online, upload supporting documents securely, verify their identity using facial‑recognition technology, and track the progress of their application in real time. This removes the need to send documents by post and is intended to streamline what has historically been a lengthy process.

Registered dental professionals will also be able to use MyGDC to manage their registration, pay fees, complete annual renewal requirements and declare their continuing professional development (CPD) hours.

Theresa Thorp, Executive Director of Regulation at the GDC, said:

“Joining the register is a significant moment in every dental professional’s career. MyGDC gives applicants and dental professionals a faster, user‑friendly and more transparent and accessible way to interact with us. This is part of our wider commitment in our 2026–2028 strategy to ensure our registration processes are efficient and effective.”

The move to a fully online system follows user research indicating that the existing process was often viewed as difficult to navigate, particularly for new and international applicants. The absence of real‑time updates and the reliance on paper documents were identified as key sources of delay and frustration.

Once MyGDC is launched, applicants will receive notifications when action is required and will be able to respond directly through their online account. The underlying registration requirements and assessment standards will remain unchanged; the shift relates to how applications are submitted, not what is required.

From 25 March 2026, all new applications must be submitted via MyGDC. Applicants who began their registration in eGDC on or before 24 March 2026 will have three months from the date of application to provide the required supporting documentation. If their application is not completed within that timeframe, they will need to submit a new application through MyGDC.
