From 1 January 2025, the NMC will continue to automatically recognise most Swiss nursing and midwifery qualifications under a new mutual recognition agreement between the UK and Switzerland.
This, the NMC said, ensures that Swiss-trained professionals with eligible qualifications can carry on registering to practise in the UK.
The new agreement replaces the Swiss Citizens’ Rights Agreement (SCRA), which ends on 31 December, maintaining continuity for most applicants. For now, Swiss applicants must continue emailing the NMC to begin their application due to unique terms under the SCRA. Later in the New Year, the application system will be updated to allow Swiss applicants to apply directly online.
The agreement ensures the continued recognition of Swiss qualifications and a simpler application process. Learn more about the changes here.
