The NMC is surveying nursing and midwifery professionals on its register to better understand their experiences of delivering care.
This will be an annual survey which covers topics including:
- professionals’ experiences at work over the last year
- any barriers professionals identify to good standards of care
- next career steps
- how well professionals think the NMC is performing as a regulator.
The NMC said the results of the survey will influence their regulatory work, and it will share findings with others in the sector who influence the varied environments in which nurses, midwives and nursing associates work.
“We will track trends over time, how professionals’ experiences impact people’s care, and how nursing and midwifery varies across different settings and the four countries of the UK.”
The NMC confirmed that it will email the survey to registered nurses, midwives and nursing associates between 25 March and 2 April 2025. The survey closes on 17 April 2025. It further confirmed that professionals will receive a survey link unique to them. People can only respond using their unique link.
Emma Westcott, NMC Acting Executive Director of Strategy and Insight, said:
“It’s vital that the NMC roots its work in the experiences of people who provide and receive nursing and midwifery care. As the independent regulator of more than 841,000 nurses, midwives and nursing associates, we’re uniquely placed to hear from professionals across the UK.”
“Our survey will provide invaluable insight, and we strongly encourage everyone on our register to make their voices heard. This will help us to strengthen the evidence base for how we regulate and inform our work with others who shape the context for health and care delivery.”
