On Monday 24 November 2025 the Pharmaceutical Society NI launched a ten week consultation on Draft Guidance on Prescription Collection and Delivery in Northern Ireland.
This guidance supports safe, lawful, and patient-centred pharmacy practice in evolving models of care. It complements existing standards by defining clear lines of accountability for delivery and automated collection units, while recognising pharmacists’ professional autonomy to make decisions in the best interests of their patients.
Key focus areas include:
- Governance and oversight;
- Handling of medicines, including controlled drugs and fridge lines;
- Patient consent and confidentiality;
- Ongoing risk assessment and audit.
This consultation will run until Monday 2 February 2026.
