New guidance has been released to support disabled and neurodivergent individuals pursuing a career in osteopathy, with a focus on improving inclusivity across education and training settings.

The updated publication, informed by a 2024 consultation, is designed to help prospective and current students understand the standards required to qualify as an osteopath, while encouraging education providers to create supportive and accessible learning environments.

Key changes include:

  • New case studies illustrating how standards can be met in practice.
  • Enhanced content reflecting the needs of neurodivergent students.
  • Development of ‘Easy Read’ versions featuring simplified language and visuals, following student feedback.

The guidance reinforces the message that many people with disabilities or long-term health conditions can successfully train and register as osteopaths. It also emphasises the importance of ensuring all students—regardless of background or protected characteristics—have a positive educational experience.

Available in both English and Welsh, the guidance is now accessible via the regulator’s website, with separate versions tailored for students, applicants, and educators.
