The General Optical Council has published “Never Events” – the events the regulator thinks should never happen at the General Optical Council.

The General Optical Council said on its website “This framework outlines our commitment to patients, the public and our registrants that it is vital to get certain things right the first time because they have such a significant impact on patient safety and protection.”

The “Never Events” include inappropriate registrations, restorations or removals from the register; failure to appropriately maintain interim or substantive fitness to practise orders where these are necessary; and failure to update a registration within 3 days of an interim or substantive fitness to practise order.
