The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has initiated a public survey to gather early feedback on the future of its Code and revalidation process.

This move marks the beginning of a comprehensive review aimed at ensuring these regulatory frameworks remain relevant amid evolving healthcare challenges and practices. The survey invites input from professionals, students, employers, and the general public, focusing on potential improvements to the Code through updated standards, guidance, and supporting materials. It also seeks suggestions on enhancing the revalidation model to better support professionals across diverse roles and backgrounds.

The NMC plans to use the survey results to inform further research and engagement activities over the coming months. A formal consultation is expected to launch in September 2026, pending approval from the NMC Council, with the revised Code and revalidation process scheduled for publication in October 2027.

Professor Donna O’Boyle MBE, Acting Executive Director of Professional Practice, emphasized the importance of broad participation, noting that nursing and midwifery impact nearly every individual in the UK. The survey is available in both English and Welsh and is open until the end of September.
