The NMC said it’s no longer accepting new candidates onto the temporary register saying candidates joining the register has been “very low in recent weeks”.
In March 2020, the NMC opened its Covid-19 temporary register and invited different groups to join one at a time to build up the register in a safe and measured way. These groups were:
- Nurses and midwives who left our permanent register between 1 March 2017 and 29 February 2020
- Overseas candidates who had completed all parts of their NMC registration process except their OSCE
- Nurses and midwives who left our permanent register between 1 March 2015 and 28 February 2017
Closing the temporary register
The temporary register was set up under Government emergency legislation. This legislation has now been repealed, meaning the Secretary of State has notified the NMC that the emergency situation has ended, therefore closing the temporary register.
