GOsC is consulting on updated Guidance for Osteopathic Pre-registration and the Standards for Osteopathic Education and Training.
This Guidance for Osteopathic Pre-registration Education (GOPRE) describes the outcomes that graduates are expected to demonstrate and the clinical experience necessary to gain a ‘recognised qualification’ showing that they practise in accordance with the Osteopathic Practice Standards (OPS). This qualification entitles graduates to register with us and begin safe, independent practice.
The Standards for Education and Training are the standards expected of the osteopathic educational providers to ensure that students demonstrate the required outcomes.
The GOsC said “The purpose of this consultation is to ensure that the updated Guidance for Osteopathic Pre-registration Education and Standards for Education and Training are fit for purpose and inclusive, reflecting our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.”
This will be the first time that the GOsC has set its own standards for education, previously we have utilised the Quality Assurance Agency Quality Code for Higher Education which define the standards required of the environment within which pre-registration education is delivered. These new GOsC Standards for Education and Training ensure that delivery of education and training are transparent and explicit.
The consultation closes on 22 September 2021.
