The General Medical Council (GMC) has cancelled PLAB test in India and Canada due to local Covid restrictions. The GMC announced today that the British Council has cancelled May tests in Toronto and in India.
The GMC said all candidates with a booking in India for May will instead be able to rebook their place on a test in India on 12 August 2021.
However, for Toronto, the British Council is unfortunately unable to reschedule bookings for later in the year at the moment because of the ongoing restrictions in place. It was confirmed that the GMC “are doing everything it can to increase the PLAB 1 places we can offer in future.”
It has been confirmed that PLAB 1 tests taking place in May 2021 are currently going ahead in line with public health guidance in host countries.
“We’re looking at a range of other options to help international medical graduates demonstrate their knowledge and skills.”
To address the challenges posed by Covid, the GMC are “looking at a range of other options to help international medical graduates demonstrate their knowledge and skills.” Included in the range of other options are additional overseas registration exams to the list of evidence it will accept from doctors to demonstrate knowledge and skill.
